Why See a Psychologist?

  • Psychologists are professionally trained individuals to help assess, treat and provide therapeutic services to individuals with mental health and/or addiction concerns
  • A psychologist has anywhere between 6-10 years of university training, practicum experience, supervised practice, and registration under a licensing body that requires psychologists to pass a license exam and approved by a board of other psychologists at the College of Alberta Psychologists
  • Psychologists will help to assess your presenting concerns, and/or provide appropriate diagnoses where applicable 
  • Psychologists provide a diversified array of treatment modalities and strategies to help move an individual forward 
  • Psychologists help to provide resources and information about one's mental health and/or addictions, as well as other associated services that may be available for a client
  • Psychologists will make necessary and appropriate referrals to other professionals when required to ensure the best help is provided to an individual and their respective needs
  • A Conquest psychologist will work and collaborate with your doctor and/or other health professionals where appropriate
  • A psychologist can help an individual to transform their life through meaningful dialogue, helping a client to self-reflect, and begin to work their way through often complex and tough decisions within their life. Conquest's psychologists are here to help, and their first priority is you 

What is Counselling/Psychotherapy Services?

  • Counselling is an interactive partnership between a client and a professional who is trained in the mental health field
  • It is an opportunity to learn about yourself to reflect and to begin to put yourself first
  • A safe environment to express your thoughts, and emotions free of judgment 
  • A dynamic interaction which stimulates change, which supports and encourages the development of your strength and courage and a place to feel comforted, heard, and understood

How Long Will Counselling/Psychotherapy Take?

  • The amount of counselling required for each individual is respective to their needs and concerns brought forth to the therapy session 
  • There is no set length of how long it will take to recover and/or find solutions to one's concerns 
  • What is of most importance is that an individual is committed to the process of change and is ready and willing to engage in self-reflection, critically think and participate during their sessions, and reach each day to be the active agent of change within their life 
  • The psychologist at Conquest who is working with you will help guide and determine the best course of treatment possible for you. Together your healing journey will be worked on together
  • Each counselling session is 50 mins in length 
  • Generally a client visits and participates in counselling services once a week until some progression and improvement in health is made. From there, the length of time between sessions will be extended as per discussed amongst the psychologist and the client

Is Counselling/Psychotherapy Confidential?

  • Conquest keeps all counselling sessions, notes, and consultations with clients, confidential 
  • The client and the psychologist will review a consent to engage in counselling, with a thorough review of confidentiality and its components, in the first session

What Therapy Approach is Right For Me?

There are many different therapy approaches. Your Conquest psychologist will work with you and utilize the most valuable and corresponding therapy approach possible in connection to your needs and individualistic issues/concerns. One therapeutic model is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This approach is scientifically evidenced-based and proven to treat many psychological conditions and concerns such as depression and anxiety, for example. Ask your psychologist after completing your initial assessment what he or she thinks may be the best strategy to help you achieve the greatest success in counselling.  

What are the Standard Fees for Psychological Services?

Conquest's fees for psychological services are in line with the recommended fees schedule of the Psychologists Association of Alberta.  


  • These service fees may be covered in whole or in part by one's employee health benefits plan and/or through other health insurance coverage
  • Conquest will provide appropriate receipts for services rendered for claiming purposes, and/or will direct bill where appropriate 
  • Payment is taken at the beginning of each session
  • An appointment can be arranged/booked by way of phone, Conquest's website, and/or in person 
  • A client's credit card information will be collected in order to secure your first appointment if booked online or over the phone 
  • If a credit card number is not available, other arrangements will need to be made prior to your initial session to secure the appointment such as sending an e-transfer payment to Conquest 
  • Conquest accepts Cash, VISA, MasterCard, and other accepted methods of payment such as debit
  • Also it is important to remember one's receipts for counselling/psychological services can be claimed under tax deductible health services on your income tax return
  • Conquest also has packaged counselling deals available, please ask upon booking your first appointment and/or when booking your next appointment with your Conquest psychologist
  • Conquest does have a cancellation policy in which an individual needs to adhere to when cancelling their appointment. A client must provide at least 24-hours notice. If one does not cancel/change their appointment time within the noted time frame above, then a full-session charge will apply to a client's account
